Bf110 shot down 13/3/44 by Slovak Bf109E

Hi guys

Any information on the Bf110G shot down by a Slovak Bf109E on 13 March 1944. Apparently the 110 crashed into a tributary of the Danube and the pilot was killed; gunner survived.

Cheers
Brian

Brian,

It happened on 13 April, 1944, a month later and the Bf 110 belonged to II./ZG 1 but I'm not so sure, that it was shot down actually by that Emil. Some parts of that day's air activity is still contradictionary.

Re: Bf110 shot down 13/3/44 by Slovak Bf109E

It happend on 13. april 1944. František Hanovec (Bf 109 E-3, W.Nr. 2945) and Rudolf Božík (Bf 109 E-2, W.NR. 972) had practice alarm start. Over Bratislava they met some airplanes, they thought enemy, four-engine bombers. Whem they get near, the last enemy started fire. So Božik shot it down. But this was Bf 110 G-2 (W.Nr. 6397, 2N+HM) from 4./ZG 1 with extra fuel tanks. Pilot Wilhem Meilinger perished. Gunner survived and reported that they was shot down by Mustnags.
Božik claimed B-24 but they all know that this was Bf 110 in this time.

All infos from excellent article about this incident form czech magazine REVI 63.

PS: The shoot down of the Bf 110G-2 is also told in Osprey's Slovakian and Bulgarian Aces of WW 2

Yes, this are losses of 15th AF over Slovakia. List is not complete.
The record is perhaps comprehensible, first is date, second typ of plane and unit, than crew and last is place of crash.
