Its a Whitley - Mk.V N1408 MH-K of 51 Sq missing (Hannover) 18.05.40 - according to James J. Halley, Air-Britain Publications.

Re: Photos 11-30

Hi...

Definitely a Whitley. The tailplane arrangement gives it away.

Loved the photo album showing the Do17s from KG77, especially the mix of Do17Z and the earlier Do17Es, with the small external bomb load in evidence. Thanks for a great selection once again, Ed.

Regards...

Avias and Hawks were flown for Kampfgeschwader Luetzow movie, they have also burned some actual Polish planes for it. I cannot exclude that the footage was used in other films as well.

Re: Photos 11-30

Kjetil

I also thought it was a Whitley. Did a Google on the serial and there was a reference to Halifax - or it might have been Hanover. Saw the H and assumed Halifax. OF course too early for a Halifax.

Thought it showed a body covered in a sheet but not clear of casualties.

The story seems to indicate they all bailed out but it looks more like a force landing.

How are the profiles going? Keeping you busy?

regards

Mark

Guys

Can't remember that I have seen all that many upper parts of Luftwaffe wings. Was it common or not to put the STMKZ on the upper surface?
Check this crashed Ju 52

Re: Photos 11-30

I believe it to be a Junkers F-13...It is far too small for Ju 52 (look at the people sizes)...and I see only one wrecked engine...but I can be mistaken!

On the open source LEMB Sktz Database Project, we have this listed as:

PV+NW - Junkers W34hau of Schule/FAR.24

OK Guys

Let's go for a Ju W.34, but you are missing the point. I wasn't looking at the aircraft I was looking at the markings ON TOP of the wings!!

Any takers?

Cheers
Stig
