Re: Air Cdr Peter Brothers
I'm sad to hear that. He was a very colourful character - as many of that era seemed to be. And being 'one of the few' makes him extra special.
He appears several times in the series 'Hunters In The Sky' and also in 'Clash Of Wings'. Frightfully British, and very down to earth fellow. Fly high Peter. |

Re: Air Cdr Peter Brothers
This is extremely sad news. I saw Pete Brothers just 3 days before his death and was pleased that he looked so well, considering he had recently broken his hip as a result of a fall.
He was the epitome of a Battle of Britain Ace, charming and totally modest and unassuming about his war time exploits, as well as with regards to his post war career. I will miss our chats and his never ending cigars! The World will be a poorer place without him. David.

Re: Air Cdr Peter Brothers
Andy,
Thanks for the news about Air Cdr. Brothers. In 1990, I flew to England to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. My girlfreind at the time (who is now my wife of sixteen years) and I got up at 0400 in the morning and went into downtown London to get our seats in front of Buckingham Palace to see the Royal Family review and the 50th Anniversary BoB flypast. It was a wonderful ceremony on a beautiful day. After the ceremony was over, a very nice London policeman let me go under the rope to dash across the roundabout in front of the Palace to mingle with the Battle of Britain vets as they boarded their bus. One of the lads I met was Pete Brothers. He was fantastic!! I saw him on two other occasions at Duxford events and he was always delightful. I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet him on a more personal level. Their were a couple of opportunities, but for one reason or another, they never panned out. I have two very special original aircraft profile paintings that were signed by A/C Brothers a couple of years ago, all facilitated by David Williams. They will be cherished just a little more with his passing. Cheers A/C Brothers and rest in peace. Mark Copeland |

Re: Air Cdr Peter Brothers
Dare I repeat what I put on the BofB Forum earlier? I do it because he was the epitome. And time for everyone. (So sad to hear about the hip incident. It's not helpful to senior citizens.)
""With the GREATEST respect - At an Auction in London - Norman Tebbit with the gavel - Wife asked me who that cocky little bugger over there was. Knowing Pete of old, I told him that my Wife wanted to know who that cocky little bugger over there was. Pete's reaction - "that deserves a kiss". What a guy!! = Tim "" |

Re: Air Cdr Peter Brothers
We celebrated Air Commodore Peter Brothers funeral today. It was attended by family, friends and former pilots from the Battle of Britain and the Eulogy given by his son in law was first class.
The crowning moment, following the service, was a fly past by a single Spitfire. A fantatstic send off for a great pilot, an emplerary officer and a role model for subsequent generations. Here's to one of the last of the few. Rest in peace Sir! David.
