I think the emergency chute is the part of a sitzfallschirm etc that deploys first to pull the main chute out of the bag.

Again, an excellent selection... the poor old Dorniers weren't getting a good press, though... one in collision with an Amiot 143 (?) and another being dragged away on a lorry... ! Paul |

Agree with the comments about the drogue or "pilot" parachute. Found an "Irvin Air Chute" parachute in the wreckage of an RAF Wellington in 1984 and it had a small parachute with four spring-loaded splines in it just like the German example pictured.
