Bf 109 Shotdown 04Mar41

Could anyone provide the loss details of a Bf 109 that was shotup and crashed during or shortly after take off from Brest-Guipavas A/D, Brittany, on the 04Mar41. Presumably the a/c belonged to JG 2.

Best Regards

Andy Fletcher

Hi Andy

Not the answer to your query, but I note Jack Foreman (The Turning Point Volume I) states the Spitfire pilot involved was a F/Lt Taylor of 1 PRU. However, my notes imply it was F/Lt K.F. Arnold DFC (also of 1 PRU) in R6903. Foreman doesn't record any loss, but you probably know this.

Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian

Just out of curiosity why do you and Foreman differ? Are different records in UK stating two different things?

Coastal Command is a pretty elusive structure when it comes to claimed victories. Totally overshadowed by Fighter Command of course, one almost exclusively read about the Anti Submarine fighting or its later Strike missions and also to a certain degree the PRU work, but rarely anything comprehensive about its claimed victories. Pity!

Cheers
Stig

Hi Brian,

I have Arnold making the claim as well, but in Spitfire P9307.

Hi,

Not reported for loss of Brest/Guipavas on that date, from April 3, two losses and one on 4.

Spitfire I P9307, loss on 10 April 41 ?

Hi Daniel,

Yes P9307 was lost 10Apr41, pilot was F/O L.D. Loasby (MIA)

Thanks for looking for the corresponding Luftwaffe loss on 04Mar41

Best Regards
