LW pilot Albert Schindler
Hi!
Recently I added extra one Ehren Pokal of Luftwaffe to my collection. It belonged to feldwebel Albert Schindler, he was awarded 13.1.42 Also there is a publication in the Ehrenliste der Deutschen Luftwaffe on 19th January 1942 as a Flugzeugführer, so he was a pilot. Can anybody provide me with some more info about him. Thanx in advance. Eugene. |

Re: LW pilot Albert Schindler
Hello again,
Not sure if this is the “Albert Schindler”, born 16 April 1915, you are researching. The two links at the bottom of the page are from the National Archives in Australia. http://tinyurl.com/ox55np (Photo of Prisoners of War as described below) ID Number: 030182/10 Maker: Halmarick, Colin Thomas Physical description: Black & white Summary: Murchison, Australia. 30 December 1942. Group of German prisoners of war (POWs) interned at No. 13 POW Group. Back row, left to right: 41779 Ofw Siegfried Schoen of Halle-Saale; 41666 Unteroffizier (Uffz) (Petty Officer, 3rd Class) Helmut Pohl of Borna, Leipzig; 41195 Feldwebel (Fw) (Petty Officer, 1st Class) Heinz Fandrey of Nanen bei Berlin; 41707 Fw Erwin Rink of Oberressfeld bei Koenigshofen; 41111 Fw Heinz Boesebeck of Hildesheim. Front row: 42066 Fw Willi Schulz of Buschkrug, Pr. Friedland; 42064 Fw Albert Schindler of Oberlangenau, Schlesien; 42060 Fw Friedrich Kracht of Klansdorf am Schwent; 42058 Ofw Werner Horn of Berlin-Neukoelln. Re: LW pilot Albert Schindler
The Feldpost number given in the ANA documents is:
L 20543 (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 5. Flughafen-Betriebs-Kompanie Kampf-Geschwader 77, (10.2.1943-23.8.1943) 2. Flughafen-Betriebs-Kompanie Kampf-Geschwader 77, (10.11.1944-Kriegsende) 16.3.1945 21. Flugzeug-Wartungskompanie. So he was an aircraft mechanic. He must have been on loan to another unit at the time of capture because none of the components of KG 77 were anywhere near the Mediterranean theater during 1941. The Geschwader was busy bombing England to June 1941 and then operated in northern Russia to November-December 1941. Larry |

Re: LW pilot Albert Schindler
He was pilot of Wk Nr 4203 1H +GH of 4 KG 26, captured with his crew bombing Port Suez. So either he gave out misinformation. What was 4/KG 26's numbers?.

Re: LW pilot Albert Schindler
It sure looks like he buffaloed the Aussies with a phony Feldpost number then, because not only is it typed on his P/W form but someone came along later and wrote it again in pencil right below where it was typed, almost as if to say, "Right - this double-checked and is correct." Air Ministry Directorate of Intelligence in London had all or most of the Feldpostnummern for KG 26 by October 1941, so this confusion is surprising.
