Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Sorry All,

Chris I have it as II. Gruppe. But don't know the source.
Byron I try to put it again. Very slow today...
Thi emblem is given for Do17Z, very few time in 1940. I think Larry Hickey made some comments about that one on LEMB
Regards,
Franck.

PS Sorry guys for the confusion.

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Thanks Franck, but let us see what the others come up with on this one.

I have 6./KG76 as being an 8 sided star, I have a private photo.

Chris

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Yes Cris,

that is Gruppe III as well in Rolfes book, there must be a time difference between them (the bee)

Ouidjat

Your emblem is named "Stab KG 76" in the book, but which Stab? For Geschwaderstab is an eagels leg there

Thanks Byron When you say 'the bee' do you mean 'the wasp', and was the wasp a III Gruppe emblem as I also have it as 12./KG76 and confusingly on a blue background as a later emblem of 9./KG76. Sadly I do not have photographic proof of either:

Best regards
Chris

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

Hi...

Interesting topic, albeit it a little confusing... !

I, too, have seen a photo of a Do17Z with an eight-sided star, part of Ed West's contribution of 29 September this year. I have it as 'unit unknown', so is this the one you're referring to, Chris?

I have to agree with Byron and Steve, though... why all the secrecy about the 5.Staffel emblem?

Regards...

Paul

Re: 5./KG76 Emblem?

This, then...

In addition, Doug and Larry's excellent Bomber units of the Luftwaffe 1933-45 vol 2 (Classic) on page 244 shows the Rampant Lion emblem, which you thought was III.Gruppe/KG76, Chris, as being exactly that, and at the top of page 227, a wave-patterned Ju88C-6 carrying the same emblem (minus the 'Heidelberg' legend above it) attributed to 9.Staffel/KG76. Doug and Larry also attribute the 'three upward arrows' insignia, on page 237, once believed to be 9./KG76 and now possibly 5.Staffel, to actually being 9.Staffel.

If nothing else, it definitely shows how easy it is to become confused...

Regards

Paul
