A couple of ?? I got from the JG26 war diary...
OK;
Who was the Wing Commander who led the Digby Wing on it's November 8, 1941 mission; As I read in 'Diary', the commander had never flown in combat before & led the wing that day; he ended up getting himself shot down, along with a number of his wing mates...and most interestingly, where does the story of this guy appear in unit histories or personal recollections/memoirs? and Wilfried Sieling, the Geschwader Adjutant was shot down & killed; the Diary noted a Spitfire managed to only fire a single bullet that struck Sieling & killed him...AND I was wondering how that was figured out: I don't mean to turn this into 'CSI-Pas-de_Calais' but I am interesting in hearing about it...I presume either a pilot reported he was able to fire only one shot or there was an autopsy... thanks ahead of time; |
