Interesting captured Bf109- III/JG-3
In one of my books on Luftwaffe Markings, which I bought many years ago, there was a photograph of a Bf109F/early G captured by the Russians. The caption was:"...Reputedly one of a pair of Bf109s surrendered to the Russians by two Luftwaffe deserters."
The book was Kenneth Merricks's German Aircraft Markings 1939-1945 and the caption was on page 133. Many years later, I found a more complete picture of this Bf109 and can identify this as a III/JG-3 aircraft due to the insignia on the nose. Can anyone provide more info?
