Chris,
I ran my 7./StG51 DB. I found that many photos clearly did not have nicknames on the cowlings, although many of these pre-date the use of the comet/bull insignia era. I found two photos that appear to show nicknames on the noses, neither of which could be read. One was probably 6G+FR (had a white "F" under the prop spinner). This might be your "Friedl," but I doubt that this is your specific photo, as it really wan't clear enough to read the lettering. Would like to see an image of your photo if you feel comfortable sharing it at this point.
