Kari Stenman's 'The Winter War'
A lavishly illustrated (A4 softback) 80-page account of the Winter War 1939-1940 by Kari Stenman in the Batailles Aeriennes quarterly series published by Lela Presse with the emphasis on events as seen from the Finnish side. Given the large & disparate Russian forces involved this was the logical way to proceed - although there is no shortage of coverage of Soviet air operations.
Summary of contents -Introduction -the opposing air forces & foreign aid. The emphasis here is on Finnish fighter aviation - an excellent selection of clear photos and colour profiles cover the Fokker D.21 , Gauntlet, Gladiator, Ms 406 & Hurricane. -a day-by-day account of air operations from November 1939 through to March 1940. Excellent photo coverage of Finnish Blenheims, Gladiators, Ms 406 & D.XXI fighters in action. -Appendices: Finnish aerial victory list and units -Uniform illustrations -Modelling- building a Finnish Fokker D.XXI More at http://avionsbateaux.com |
