Need help with Loss Card - Special Equipment
Hi folk
As part of my research into the raid on Frankfurt am Main 22 March 1944 I am analysing the loss cards for the 33 a/c lost that night. I have two main issues: Limited knowledge of special equipment Difficulty in reading the cursive script So I thought I'd ask for help. ![]() I tried to attach an example problem loss card - but the manage attachments pop-up window froze. ![]() SAA - what is this? IFF - Identification Friend or Foe Gee - sometimes seen a "TR1335 Gee" - radio navigation system Galto?/Astis? - I cannot decipher this - what is it? Monica - radar to provide some early warning of night fighters behind and below A.P.I. - Air Position Indicator - Analogue Lat & Long navigation device Other examples I cannot decipher or do not know what they are: A.R.I. 5085 5560 SPI Gee Nav and 'Y' Gee and 'Y' RFU35? GTI or CTI? From my initial analysis I know that at least 26 out of the 33 a/c were shot down by night fighters. Of those 18 have Monica, Fishpond and or Boozer. The remaining either did not have or did not record any special equipment. (Help or hindrance? Perhaps a topic for another thread - I wonder how many others avoided night fighters by using the equipment) Many thanks Robert |
