Pilot Officer Herbert Capstick - 236 Sqn
He was the only Jamaican in the Battle of Britain flying on Blenheims with 236 Squadron. Unfortunately 236's ORB is devoid of info. I have managed to trace via the auction house the person who bought Capsticks logbooks and photograph albums in 2002 and am waiting to see if I'm able to view the said items.
Capstick flew with Sqn/Ldr Peter Drew OC on 20/21 July, then began flying with Flying Officer William Moore from August to October 1940. Moore and Capstick escorted a flight of bombers to Ostend in September and they are bounced by '35' Bf109E's could anyone elaborate on this? Being the only Jamaican flying Blenheim fighters I'd like to include a bit more in my writing for Coastal Dawn - due out early next year. Yours faithfully, Andy Bird |
