Spitfire70 and Blonde Mcindoe

My wife and I have taken on a project to raise funds for Blonde McIndoe (www.blondmcindoe.com) next year.

Our idea is to use the 70th Anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire as the back drop for our fund raising activities. Kicking this off we would like to compile a book of thoughts and recollections about the Spitfire from those who have had any involvement with the aircraft over the past 70 years. This includes anyone, from those who fought in them, to those who own, fly and operate them today, to the mechanics who fixed them, or do so today or the general public who travel to see them at the various airshows around the globe, literally anyone who has a passion for the aircraft can contribute.

I have started writing to such noted people as Pierre Cloisterman, Peter Brothers, Alex Henshaw and others of that era for their input

Today I received a nice letter from Blonde Mcindoe, enclosing a copy of Honouring the Few the story behind the Battle of Britain Monument and the Battle of Britain, it’s a superb book, which if you haven’t got a copy, I suggest you get out there and buy. The first print run is being sold directly by Blonde Mcindoe for £9.99, from which the charity gets £4.99, if you would like further details let me know and I will arrange an order form.

The charity have also confirmed that the Mark Hannah Trust are interested in our project and I will be speaking to them in the not too distant future to explain our idea.

So basically it’s over to you, please feel free to post any comments here that you may wish to contribute to this project, especially where the book is concerned and what emotions the sight and sound of a Spitfire stirs up in you.

There is an email for this project spitfire70(at)jerseymail.co.uk

I will point out that from our behalf this is not a case of Spitfire snobbery, we were just slight too late to do the same sort of thing for the Hurricane.
