Jukka, I understand about your comment re: maps. I recently was reading a history of the US (in Florida) Second Seminole War. The author had done a terrific job listing both contemporary and 1835 place names. Then, they were all put on a map of the whole of Florida with such small font it cannot even be read.

Today's publishers are notorious for being short sighted on including maps. They see it as an extra expense, not appreciating that reader gets a lot of of maps, especially detailed ones that the reader can relate directly to the text. While the "average" buyer may not look at a lot of maps, 95% of these specialized historical books are not read by the "average" reader but people like us who want to see where things are. Too much of today's publishing thinking is still stuck in 1950s thinking about who's reading their books.
