Hurricane L1592 - Individual codes
I am interested to know if any of you can supply the individual code letters worn by L1592 (currently in the Science Museum London) during the following periods of service:
3rd June 1938- 26th July 1939 - 56 Sqn, (coded LR-? in early 1939) 27th July 1939- 9th October 1939 - 17 Sqn (coded YB-? from Sept. 1939) 10th-13th October 1939 - 87 Sqn ? France (almost certainly not taken up?) 14th October 1939-15th November 1939 - 43 Sqn, (coded FT-?) * 16th November 1939-15th February 1940 - 17 Sqn, (code YB-?) * Photographic evidence confirms L1592 was FT-C with 43 Sqn but this is from its second use by the Sqn from 16th February 1940 until 1st June 1940. So what was the code in November 1939? Incidentally as you may know aircraft were often sent to other Sqns for a short period of time and although they were officially transferred in Air Min records, if they were in effect being borrowed, would the new Sqn repaint the unit and individual codes each time?
