Seeking pilot IDs for profiles for 2. & 3./JG1 during the Polish Campaign through the end of 1939

Hello,

I'm in the process of setting up the EoE Profile packages for 2. and 3./JG1 during the Polish Campaign and later through the end of 1939, and am sorting through all my options for subjects, preferably a/c with known pilots, W.Nr. and/or histories. Maybe some of you may be able to help in the selection process, by providing additional information or photos.

For 2./JG1, I have several photos of a/c from that period, including R2+, R3+, R7+, R8+, R9+ & R12+, but none belonging to known pilots or with identified W.Nr.s. The Sta Kap, Oblt Water Adolph, likely flew Red 1, but I don't know this for sure, and I have no photos of this specific a/c. The photo of R7+ that I have is likely the replacement for the R7+ of Lt. Heinrich Sannemann of 2 Staffel that returned from a combat sortie 40% damaged due to German flak with slight injuries to the pilot on 04.09.39. His a/c would be a possibility for a profile, but I have no photos of this original R7+, which could well have been photographed at the time of this incident. For the PC, I would prefer to do the original a/c, rather than its replacement.

For 3./JG1 I have a number of Bf109E photos from this period, including Y2+, Y4+, Y5+, Y6+, Y8+ and Y15+. These are all before the unit moved the a/c numbers to the cowlings of their a/c sometime in the late-fall of 1939. Only "Yellow 6" has a named pilot, Uffz Ernst Schulz, but none of the others have known pilots or W.Nr. Oblt Max Dobislav was the Sta Kap at this time, and very likely flew "Yellow 1," but I have no photos of that a/c from this time period. Does anyone have or know of such a photo(s)?

Photos exist of the tail of the a/c of Fw Klaus Faber of 3. Staffel with a crescent moon on the fin, which may be for a symbol for a victory on 28.09.39. But I have no information on the a/c number of this plane, nor am I certain that this was actually an unusual type of victory symbol. I have no idea why a pilot would choose a yellow crescent moon for a symbol for a day victory, a Blenheim, at 10:29 hrs near Osnabrück. Does anyone know?

So, if anyone can help me choose profiles for these two squadrons, your help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Larry Hickey
