The strategic bombing had to have some effect as in 1944 only as 229 were built. 19/month
1943 With the biggest convoy battles of the war and the highest number of boats at sea, stakes were high. In May 1943 the biggest loss to befall the U-boat fleet came with loss of 41 boats. Overall losses in 1943 were 243 U-boats. A increase of 43 over losses. In 1944, 249 were lost, for 229 built. No comment on the ships arriving/losses? |
