Help - looking for data I./JG 5 May 12, 44
Thanks to prodding by Nigel Julian I am looking into the very real possibility that I./JG 5 was the first to engage in the Frankfurt area on May 12, 1944.
Looking at Tony Wood data, Krupinski 2./JG 5, is credited with a P-47 at 05 Ost/TS-6: 7000m at 1152, Jahn 3./JG 5 is credited with P-47 at 05 Ost/TS-69 4000m at 1155. Caldwell has I./JG 5 based at Herzogenaurach and hitting the bomberstream closer to Fulda area then back toward Frankfurt. If JG 5 actually engaged bombers near Fulda the time would have been closer to 1230 to 1240... if they took off at ~1120 then they could have arrived near Frankfurt in 1150 timeframe. Can anyone help me reconstruct the engagement with the two P-47s in that area at that time? Thank You Bill Marshall
