Re: 6/JG52 Eagle emblem Blue or red?

Hi Gents,

Indeed I knew about that report and what is generally accepted concerning that emblem.

But, again, I couldn't imagine Axel didn't know about that and was expecting some kind of " generally it's blue but we find one or two in personal documentations being mentioned as red" ...

But no! Didn't happen.

SO with the authorisation of the editor here comes a fair answer:

Hi Frank,

thank you for your email!! Yes I know the probelm. We didn’t know that report, with the information “blue” when we did the book. I we looked to all the photos, we realizied, that the yellow eagle (Barbas book say it was yellow) and the black one (Prien printed it black in his books) was wrong. We checked the grey scales very carefull and at least it was nearly the same color the the “Rotring-Oil” stencil on the Bf 109. But the decission for red gave a photo which I add for you. It’s a scan from an original negativ, so perfect grayscals. There you see the french ticolore on the captured Bloch bomber fin and above the embel, You will agree the it looks like the colore to the right. That is red!! The colour to the left is blue – and you will agree the aegle looks diffrent!! By this way we made our decission! Yes, I know now the RAF reort, and yes, there we find the information blue. After that I checked all my photos and looked to all my unpublished photo of Fw 190 of III./JG 54 with blue tailband. Then we check that tailbandcolour and the eagle --------- and that works!!!! Look to the scan. So its now easy. The eagle head was very dark blue and on the Bloch fin that must be a very light, light blue (which is not normal for the tricolore). What can say, yes a mistake, but we gave our best and now we know it better!

Feel free to use my information and the photos I add and let me know. (...)Please let me know if you understand my Email and the story.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Luftfahrtverlag-Start

Axel Urbanke

Best regards, Franck.
