Aluminum Panel from Schnaufer's Me110 sold for 90000 GBP!!!???
Now...this does not make sense to me...
The COMPLETE right side fin sits in a museum in the UK...which is VERY nice... however...another "right side fin - this being ONLY the outer skin, and not the complete stabilizer, went on auction in the UK...and over the weekend it sold for 90000 GBP! It looked VERY NICE...and had all of his victories painted on it. BUT... He was not flying this Me110 at the time that it crashed...and on top, there are photos of the time period showing him with his 121 victory Me110...and the fin is obviously quite different. I suspect this panel was from an Me110 with VERY LITTLE combat history with him flying it. He certainly did not get those 121 victories in the Me110 that this panel is from. So in the end...someone paid 90000 GBP for an aluminum skin with 121 victories...with no real history? I think someone has more dollars than sense. Auction estimate was 20000 GBP...which I thought was already too high... Below is the museum example...and then the panel that went on auction.
