how did Herbert Waschk obtain the Deutsche Kreuz ?

how did Herbert Waschk obtain the Deutsche Kreuz ?

Ofw Herbert Waschk ( Oberfeldwebel, born 19 01 17 in Bochum Gerte) got the German Cross on 5 Nov 1942 when at 7./KG 76.

He died later on He111 Wnr 00070 of Erprobungstelle Süd near Millau in South of France.

Does somebody know the reasons why he obtained such cross and the background ?
