I just want to say, you drew a wrong conclusion here, by overlooking orthography. The google definition you quoted does exist and is correct as such, but it referrs to the slang expression or verb "keulen". But the here relevant term is spelled "Keulen". A capital or upper key first letter (and in the middle of a sentence) indicates (in German) this being a subject (grammar) and the "-n" at the end indicates the plural form of the word "Keule" (bat or club).
If you read my post, I offer up a possibility not a conclusion.
How would anyone know how the word "Keulen" was used in the original documents based on CJE's first post?
