Hans Philipp Fw 190 A/C at time of Death
I am having an artist draw a recreation of the air battle on October 8, 1943 when Bob Johnson 61st FS, 56th FG shot down Geschwaderkommodore Stab./JG 1 Hans Philipp.
I have read that at the time of his Death Hans Philipp was flying Fw 190 A-6 "Red 6" (Werknummer 530407—factory number). The Fw 190A-5Y "Minke Pinke" assigned in to him he flew before he arrived at JG 1. I cannot find any reference showing the profile or artwork for Red 6. I am trying to find out if the cowling was red & black, red & white or Black & yellow checkerboard?
Also if there were any other Gruppe or squadron emblems on the A/C. Was this Philipp's assigned A/C? In all the books I have on JG 1, none show this A/C which is odd knowing what a famous Ace he was? Also if anyone has any of the same info pertaining to his wingman during the battle Hans-Gunther Reinhardt?
Greatly Appreciated!
One reference I read had Mike Quirk from the 62nd FS, 56th FG shooting down
Philipp?
