Re: French Beute Aircraft
Going back a few postings: in the UK we have AA for Alcoholics Anonymous but also for the Automobile Association, an organisation for helping motorists. We don't normally have any trouble distinguishing between the two when they appear.
I suggest that use of L'AdlA in English speaking countries is because we think of all the words as being required as part of the title, and do not understand why not. This is despite being somewhat inconsistent regarding the initial "the", as in The Automobile Association but Alcoholics Anonymous lacks the article. However the Ministry of Defence is commonly referred to as MoD, so little words inside the title are usually (or at least often) omitted. So is it completely normal in French practice that the "little words" are omitted? Last edited by Graham Boak; 15th November 2021 at 22:50. |
