566 ShAP Il-2 loss June 26th, 1944 - details available?
Hi!
If possible I would like to know if primary source (digitized and online preferably) exist for this battle and potential loss. June 26th, 1944 a group of unescorted Il-2 from 566 ShAP is attacked by two separate Finnish AF Messerschmitt groups. Location was near Portinhoikka (Soviets many times did write "Pirtti" for some reason). Two Finnish pilots report of an Il-2 hitting (rocky) hill and exploding. Also in a Russian aviation history discussion group there once was a post mentioning that a Soviet Air Observation post had also reported plane explosion on the day. Finnish side army materials do have no mentions of such plane explosion (heavy battles on the day) including the AAA units. I think I have gone through all the relevant unit diaries already. I have not been able to put finger on that loss. Does anyone possess material which could detail more? 13 VA daily report does not have such. Ideally copy of the 26.6.1944 277 ShAD daily report might have more details. The daily report as whole is of interest, too. There was no such thing as Soviet air regiment daily report? The exact time of clock of the loss/explosion would be of high interest to me. Cheers, Kari |
