Sgt. Kenneth A. Cox - ASN 17078406 - 18 Jan 1945 - HQ 14th AF
On 18 Jan 1945 an 11th BS/341st BG B-25 (s/n ?) crashed at the USAAF airbase at Yangkai, southern China on return from a bombing mission.
Among the victims was Sgt. Kenneth A. Cox, air combat cameraman, who that day was a passenger in the B-25. The India-Burma Theater Roundup newspaper of 15 March 1945 tells of the acquittal of a (USAAF) Lt-Col who apparently had fired two 'mercy bullets' in the head of a trapped sergeant in the burning wreckage. Attempts to free the man had been unsuccessful. (Acquittal was based on medical evidence that the man had more likely died from burning than the gunshots.) Trying to match the circumstances around Sgt. Cox's death with the newspaper article. Please do note I am not after the undisclosed name of the court martialed Lt-Col. Regards, Leendert |
