Re: eBay: Allied intrest
The one that caught my eye was Photo 18.
B-24D 41-11595 originally with Halverson detachment (HALPRO) in Palestine, flew their first mission June 11 1942 as No.1 ("Old Faithful"); when HALPRO was formulated as 376BG in Oct. she became No. 46 then 25 as "Terry the Third Cossack-Runner" (right side) and "Lily of the Desert" (left side). Artwork based on a Vargas pin-up. She wasn't on the Ploesti mission in Aug. 43. After the first HALPRO mission she returned 3 B-24 crews which had been interred in Turkey. She finally crashed in Cornwall 21 Dec.43 before she could return to the States; a sad end but she would have been scrapped over there. She still had her "Desert" markings, RAF fin flash and 376th rudder stripe with number 25. 27 missions as Halpro no.1, 2 as no.46 and 3 as no.25. Nick |
