Was there a low altitude lower performance Mosquito?

Reading Dave Mcintosh's Terror in the Starboard Seat. He was RCAF squadron 418 doing Intruder missions shortly after June 1944. He mentions in his book they did not have oxygen. He also mentions they generally orbited Luftwaffer airfields at lower speeds and his squadrons Mosquitos were vulnerable to single engine fighters which could catch them. Diving to the deck and flying at minimal altitude was the evasion technique.

A very interesting book BTW. He is quite honest regarding how combat flying affected him.
