Hello everyone, I am currently researching for a book on the history of aviation in Cambridgeshire. One of the crashes I am investigating took place on the
9th January 1942 and involved a
B17C (Known in RAF circles as a Fortress1) This particular aircraft had the
US Serial number of 40-2076 and RAF Coding of AN 536-90. Apparently it broke up in cloud over the
small village of Shepreth in Cambs UK. It had been based at
Polebrook and was serving with No 90 Squadron at the time. Interestingly this was one of the very first B17`s to arrive in England as a batch of 20 a/c supplied to Britain under the American Lend Lease Laws passed in March 1941. I would like to hear from anyone who has any additional info, names of crew, possible reason for crash, where debris fell and any photographs that may exist. In addition to this forum I can be contacted on
j.evenhart@ntlworld.com
Cheers all
Julian
