Aviation Archaeology dans la belle France

Bonjour mes amis

I am in touch with a Canadian whose father was a Mustang pilot who was shot down by an Fw190 during the Dieppe actions on 19 August 1942. Contrary to all instructions he ditched his aircraft in the outer harbour at Dieppe. He managed to get out and was rescued by the Royal Navy. Sadly he died just a few weeks ago. The Fw190 was shot down by Hollis Hills the first claim made by a Mustang pilot.

The sons of the Mustang pilot are interested to know whether there are any aviation archaeology enthusiasts who have investigated aircraft crash sites in the Dieppe area or whether anybody knows if his father’s aircraft might have been investigated in its watery grave.

Best wishes

Steve
