Ofw.Willi Glitz

Has anyone got any info on Willi Glitz? He is a candidate for the NF who shot at my grandfathers Lanc, PB265 on 24/25th July 1944. It was either NW of, or actually over Orleans (the turning point to Stuttgart). The Lanc was hit from below port side under the Mid Upper Gunner in the fuselage and the plane fell into a dive. The pilot (F/O Sarvis) brought it back though and limped to Normandy where the USA AA Battery brought it down.
Im looking for any info on the possibles...Semerau,Rauh,Glitz,Jung??? and any photos of Willi Glitz if possible?

Willi Glitz was born on 6 July 1914 at Polzenhof.
Attended FFS C at Kiliansdorf in August 1939.
Uffz. Glitz posted to Ergänzungskampgruppe 2 at Quedlinburg in July 1940, possibly as an instructor.
In mid-1943 he was serving with 5./NJG 2.
By December 1943 he was serving with Erg./NJG 2 at Gilze-Rijen as an instructor.
By July 1944 he was serving with Stab/NJG 2.
Credited with 12 victories all achieved at night.

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

Do you have an exact time of the incident? That would help in pin-pointing the (possible/prob.) candidate who shot at PB265!

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

The Lancaster had taken off from Lincoln at 9.30pm. I reckon they reached the turning point at Orleans (where they were attacked) between 11.45 and 12.45am, or even from 11 pm and 12 midnight. Still a bit unsure of exact times, but I would favour the earlier timescale.

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

I have the following five night fighter claims that could tie in with this incident, but would it be possible for you to get a copy of the combat report, which would give more precise info on the incident?

Cheers, Theo

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

thanks for that. heres the photo of the crew and pb265.
from other forums I have been informed that the Erich Jung claim is inaccurate as he was not near Orleans at the time, but Im still open minded about that!
If you do a google search on Sgt JM WEIR Lancaster PB265 then all of my research so far will pop up(dont want to post other forum links )
Identifying this NF attacker is my main avenue of investigation at the moment.

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

The info on Erich Jung comes straight from his Log of Achievement (Leistungsbuch) so that should be ok!

Re: Ofw.Willi Glitz

Erich Jung's kill close to Orleans on 24/25th July was on Lancaster ND560 (DX-N) of 57 Squadron – my uncle Alan Moore was the flight engineer on this plane.
