Ju 188 carrier for V-1 (Fi 103)

Has anyone seen reports or has details of the experiment of Ju 188 tested as carrier of V-1´s. Code or W.Nr´s.

http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65...iew-flying-V-1

This was f.e. flown by Max Mayer (as he explains in book "German Secret Flight Test Centres to 1945) but does not go into specific details.

Best regards

Ed...

What a wonderful find! Thanks for posting it. It would make a great modelling subject. I can only add that I hope someone does indeed have some information about the parent aircraft's codes etc.

Regards,

Paul

It doesn't look as if the Ju 188 launch involves a powered V-1 (or it didn't ignite). I didn't see any exhaust and the chase plane overtakes the missile.

Thanks Paul. Yes, lets hope so. So far nothing has turned up. I forgot to ask in first post, but the mods needed were likely done somewhere, Dessau, ATG or even by Fieseler etc. You do notice the codes are in Grey or even White. Quite unusual for Ju 188´s but known from many standard Ju 88´s.

Yes, Nick, I noticed, it might have been glide test (or ignition failed!)

Re: Ju 188 carrier for V-1 (Fi 103)

Hello all,
I own a copy of Max Mayers flightbook. Here are the details you are asking for:
1. Launch of a V1 (FZG76) from the Ju 188, Code CC+LM in Karlshagen on Sept. 5th 1944 (Flight time from 17:06 til 18:06 lokal time). 2. and 3. Launch with the same Aircraft on Sept. 6th 1944 (Flight time 13:00 til 13:18 and 17:02 til 17:27 Local time). No further details are given in the flightbook.

In another document (so called "Schwerpunkterprobungsberichte") it is mentioned that two of the launches are made with "Kaltlauftriebwerk" of the V1. That means the V1 was not powered. Only one of the launches was conducted with a powered V1. The same document mentioned also, that the Ju 188 was damaged by a belly landing, but no hints for a belly landing are given in the flight book of Max Mayer. Nevertheless, this aircraft does not shown up again later in the flight book and this can be a hint, way no further test with Ju 188 as V1 carrier are documented.

best regards
Oliver Thiele

It's a Ju 188 A-2 Wnr. 170463. Recorded with E-Stelle Karlshagen september 1944.

Thank you very much Oliver. Fine details, exactly as asked for. This belly landing must then have been after September (or reported after september, it´s not mentioned in Schulen und Sonstige Verbandes losses). Junker, thanks too, duly noted. I had several tie ups on either side for this.

Re: Ju 188 carrier for V-1 (Fi 103)

Hi, folks...

A big 'thank you' to everyone who contributed details to this... a future modelling project is taking shape!

One last point, if anyone can assist further... there seems to be some marking on the rudder of this machine, which I would tentatively suggest is a '2'. Would anyone be able to confirm this, or correct me?

Kindest regards to all...

Paul
