LANCASTER PARTS ?

Good morning,

you will find herewith pictures of two parts I believe (90%) belonging to a Lancaster. The yellow one has also a small round quality stamp reading :
"J" and under this "GB6";

would soembody able to confirm their origin ?

Thanks a lot

GC

Re: LANCASTER PARTS ?

Hi Gilles,

The parts can not be traced to the Lancaster exclusively as they are both standard parts used in many British aeroplanes of WW2.

The large item is a Bayonet Socket, Mk IV, from the oxygen system of the aeroplane. It would be fitted at the end of a length of rubber hose attached to an oxygen economiser. A crew member would plug his oxygen mask into the system, using a Bayonet Plug of matching type attached to his mask.

The other part is also impossible to trace with any certainty as it appears to be a standard Union Nut of some type. You would find parts like this on many different types of aeroplane.

Here is a diagram of several typical oxygen installations, for use in single, twin and multi-crewed aeroplanes. Your Socket was used in all of them.
