When did 2.(H)/AufklGr13 fly the Do17P?

Hello,

Have just acquired two photos for the EOE Photo DB of what looks like Do17Ps with the insignia of 2.(H)/13 on the starboard nose (2 diff a/c). This is emblem #546 in Ketley & Rolfe (a blue shield on which appears a cartoon owl holding a magnifying glass and a telescope). However, when I consult Ulf Balke's "Luftkrieg im Europa" Vol I for the Luftwaffe Order of Battle for the PC, WC and BoB, that unit was entirely equipped with the Hs126 from 1.9.39 through mid-Aug, 1940. During what period was this unit equipped with the Do17, and when did it convert to the Hs126? Could these photos be in the East in 1941?

This is apparently a fairly rarely illustrated insignia as I don't recall having seen it before.

Regards,

Re: When did 2.(H)/AufklGr13 fly the Do17P?

Hi,

on 19.1.40 2.(H)/13 lost a Do 17M plane. Do 17s were probably used for the night reconnaissance missions.

Regards

Robert

Larry,

In my overview for May 1940 I also have Hs126B and Do17M for 2.(H)/13.

Pieter,

Do you have a specific count of how many of each type there were on hand 10 May 1940? My photos could easily be from that period.

Regards,

Larry

Re: When did 2.(H)/AufklGr13 fly the Do17P?

Hello Larry,

when looking trough some old files with handwritten notes from long ago, I found these information which might be usefull:

2./(H)/ 13 had an established strength of 12 Hs 126 and 3 Do 17M during Mai und June 1940.

4.5.1940 there were 12 Hs 126 (10 ready for combat) and 2 Do 17M available,
11.5.1940 also 11 Hs 126 (7 ready for combat) and 3 Do 17M (one ready),
No report for 18.5.40 available, but only a note “no losses 12.-18.5.1940”
25.5.1940 it was 12 Hs 126 (11 ready), 3 Do 17M (ready) plus one Do 17M “overstrength”
1.6.1940 again 12 Hs 126 (10 ready) and 3 Do 17M (2 ready),
8.6.1940 it was 10 Hs 126 (6 ready) and 3 Do 17M (2 ready) plus the one Do 17M overstrength again.

2./(H)/ 13 reported Do 17M from 18.11.1939 onwards next to its regular Hs 126. No Do 17P mentioned anyway.

Source for above information is Genst. Gen.Qu. 6. Abtl. (IA), „Einsatzbereitschaft der fliegenden Verbände“ hold at Freiburg MA RL 2 III/700 to 734.

HTH

Carl,

That is exactly what I needed to know to properly ID these photos.

Thank you!
