Re: 1./NAGr 13
I have just 2 losses from 1/NAG 13 this day Oblt Fritz Heber (not Herbert Fritz) in Bf 109 NP+GX/8 (Wk Nr 410257) and Ofhr Franz Gregoritsch in Bf 109 SL+DN/12 Wk Nr 20680. Both were on a non-operational flight and crashed near Morlaix which would match with the Rodeos flown that afternoon during which 193 & 266 Sqns each claimed a Bf 109. Note they were not fighters but photo recce Bf 109s

Re: 1./NAGr 13
According to the website http://www.absa39-45.com/Pertes%20Br...finistere.html, both Bf 109 were from the Bf 109 G-6 type, so fighter versions, at least before any unregistered modification made at unit level.
Tactical Bf 109 recon Staffeln were often equiped with a mix a fighter and recon types. |

Re: 1./NAGr 13
Thank you very much......can I ask please.
The references you have used are these the same as British aircraft Squadron code lettering ie Bf 109 NP+GX/8 (Wk Nr 410257) and Bf 109 SL+DN/12 (Wk Nr 20680). In addition the Wk Nr is this the aircrafts serial identification number. Sorry to ask what may be a basic question... |

Re: 1./NAGr 13
There were G-6 and G-5 with cameras and their armament was often reduced at workshop level (Guyancourt seems to have dealt with that work for the NAGs in France).

Re: 1./NAGr 13
They are not the same as British codes but are factory codes allotted by the manufacturer. The tactical code of White 8/9 would have been allocated by 1/NAG 13. The Wk Nr is a unique serial number allotted by the manufacturer

Re: 1./NAGr 13
Hi All,
As I understand it, On the 21st 193 and 266 Squadrons made a sweep of some Luftwaffe Airfields in France, as the formation approached Lannion Airfield from the south at a height of about 100 ft, S/Ldr Levefre of 266 Squadron, who was leading the formation, saw two ME-109's approaching the airfield apparently coming in to land. ............ F/Lt Cassie and F/O Inglis of 193 Squadron to attack the right hand aircraft ,F/Lt Cassie attacked first firing short bursts which hit the enemy aircraft , its undercarriage came down, after it made a tight turn around a tall building trying to avoid the attacking Typhoons, F/O Inglis then attacked, the ME-109 pilot jettisoned his hood, but almost immediately there was an explosion and the ME-109G dived down into the ground next to a church pond about 6-8 miles east of the airfield, this was :- Gregoritsch Franz-Paul, Oberfähnrich, 21-01-1944, Near Morlaix Airfield, Bf 109G-6 / R-2, Wnr 410257, white 8+ ' S/Ldr Levefre attacked the other enemy aircraft and saw many strikes, the ME-109G continued to approach the runway without taking any evasive action and hit the airfield perimeter track and exploded' this was :- Heber Fritz, Oberleutnant, 21-01-1944 Morlaix Airfield, Bf 109G-8, WNr. 20680, white 12+ Thanks for the info that this was a non-op flight, this I did not know, likewise,I did not know the factory codes until now. 193Sq & 266Sq were based at RAF Harrowbeer. cheers jerry |
