Re: unknown russian pilot 6/7/41
Hi Evgeni
Thank you for reply. You are right with U-2. I had Il-2 from Mombeeck, Bergström, Pegg (Jagdwaffe, Barbarossa) : " 6 July, two "Severskys" which were probably Il-2s from 4 ShAP " Jim Perry's Database Files give two U-2s on 6/7/41 at 20.15 and 20.20, no location and German text published in 1943 : " In the afternoon, three ( Kette ) two seater low level attack aircrafts with a rear gunner were sighted heading toward Bobruisk airfield ... ...During the airfight just over the airfield the first exploded in mid air, the second caught fire and one of the crew members (Maybe not the pilot !) bailed out before the aircraft crashed to the ground. The third escaped... ... The Russian landed right in the middle of the German pilot's tents and was taken prisoner by the ground crews... " I would like to know if two U-2s were really lost in that area, what unit, names of the crew members to confirm the story above. Thank you for your help Regards Thierry i |
