Re: Hptm Gerhard Schashke, III./ZG76

The remains of Bf110E-2 W.Nr4502 M8+ZE was found with 5 victories on the fin - one RAF and four Soviet.

The last Soviet victory was 15.08.41

The others were unreadble (never got to see this Bf110) though I would love to have another look at the fin at assertain the dates. I assume it is still in Berlin a load of bits which would be great to complete. I do not know which parts they used for the restoration of the Bf110 F-2?

Assume this victoriy was still Stab/ZG76 or was it 1(Z)/JG77?

regards

Mark

Re: Hptm Gerhard Schashke, III./ZG76

Hello to all

In his superb Luftwaffe Galley #2, Erik Mombeeck proposes an article on "Maritime Strike Aircraft Rudders", and there is a close-up on Schachke's tail with victory bars and boats profiles, as well as a colour (!) photo showing his Rotte in flight, thus Schachke's 110 and the "M8+XE" usually flown by Grabmann.

Regards
Phil

At this moment, I have 4 different Schaschke's fin photos with different victory bars. His last - with 3 ships and 19 victories.

Re: Hptm Gerhard Schashke, III./ZG76

Hello all,

I don't know anything of Schashke but a later nightfighter pilot in Venlo has been Oblt. Wolfgang Thimmig, who had also been Adjudant of Grabmann, according to Armand van Ishoven's 'Bf110 at War'.

1) you can add Thimmig to the Stab/ZG 76 before he joined NJG 1 in the winter of 1940/1941
2) what is more likely: Thimmig as successor of Schashke or vice versa?

All the best, Marcel / Venlo

Any chance to see that photo for us, Dean?
