Hi

Here are pictures from the just finished recovering of He-219th

It looks messy, but the little wise men with hammer and chisel are very happy.

Pictures can be seen at www.danas-have.dk/He219.htm.

I hope that the images in row A + B can identify the aircraft ???

More information will follow later.

Regards
Kim C

Re: He 219 found in Denmark !!!

Hello Kim,

Wonderful! Here the first comments:
"219-320" identifies this part of the He219 as the inner landing flap left, whereas "lxx" means that this part was manufactured by Land- und See-Leichtbau GmbH, work Kiel, Kolonnenweg (Schleswig-Holstein) which points to a Rostock produced He219.

I will send the number on the engine to a Daimler-Benz expert. The tire was made by the German branch of Conti(nental) and was a copy of US style tires.

It's a very encouraging start of the identification ! All the best,

Marcel

Hi Kim and Marcel,

Those are really exciting photos.

Regarding the “9-603 XX5017 13” numerals visible in several of the photos, unless I am mistaken, these are part numbers or casting numbers for the DB603 engine block and not a distinct Motornummer.

Re: He 219 found in Denmark !!!

Hello Steve,

I have sent the same number on the engine to Peter Achs, who (as I am told) is a Daimler Benz expert. I do hope that he speaks the magic words soon.

Of course there are several parts which are specific for eiter an A-0, A2 or A-7 subtype but first they have to recover as most parts as possible to increase the chance of restauration and/or identification.

All the best, Marcel

Marcel

If the boxy wing air intake that's on the Tamiya model is a sure id of an A-7 then it's definately not.

You mentioned that the A-5 was not produced - did I understand that correctly (you are the guy working on Venlo 219's right?). Are the production batches for the 219 nailed down?

Post Re: He 219 found in Denmark !!!

hello Thomas,

First of all: the enlarged intake is NOT a distinctive feature for the A-7 subtype as has been written over and over again. The discovery of that popular, but erronous misconception, was done by Ron Ferguson who has written a research paper on the He219. There is photographic evidence that enlarged air intakes were also applied (or modified later) on 'early' A-0 subtypes.

Secondly: the air intake you see on the (beautiful!) photo is not related to the engine but the Kärcher heating system. I mixed up these too once

Yes, you have read it well: the A-5 was just a planned production model for which some prototypes were prepared/modified but this subtype never went into any substantial (10 or more) production. It is comparible to the planned B-1. It was never produced but of the D-1 at least 5 aircraft have been built in Wien-Schwechat.

I am certainly not the He219 expert, but I built an extensive database on the He219's, thanks to the much appreciated support from air war reseachers all over the world and many contributors of this board and Peter D. Evans Luftwaffe Experten Message Board (www.luftwaffe-experten.org). Since March 2011 a new, intensive effort has been made to assemble and process as many primary sources in order to put an end to the many myths and anomalies. Thus, a better insight in the complete He219 production (exceeding the 300!) is just one of the results which will be published in a planned He219 reference work.

All the best, Marcel
