An expensive photo of a captured airplane on its back

Why is this photo so important? Am I missing something?

Dear Dénes,

Beats me. Rather non-descript, whatever it is.

I notice there hasn't been a 262 noted by Ed in ages. Has everything dried up??

Regards,
Richard

Re: An expensive photo of a captured airplane on its back

The desire to own something is based on perceived value and motivation. Perhaps this is an aircraft that was flown by a father or grandfather. Or the buyer is a speculator or collector that has more money than most people here.

There is one buyer on ebay.de that calls himself fi156storch who buys every Storch photo that appears, or at least bids on it. I have seen him bid on photos that were little more than tiny black silhouettes against the sky. I have seen people bid on photos that consisted only of twisted bits of metal with an engine laying nearby.

Today I looked up a book published in 1950 that contained some information I was looking for, the price ranged from $1200 to $1500 from used book dealers!

Then there is the mysterious sudek13. Perhaps he is a rich man or a number of individuals. No one knows. Apparently, he/they have whatever money it takes to get what they want.

The aircraft photos I find are simply whatever is placed on ebay for any given day. I try to select photos that contain recognizable elements or unusual camouflage (at least, to me), or some other feature that may help identify the aircraft and its location.

Can you imagine paying hundreds of dollars for a baseball? I can't.

My two cents,
Ed

Dear Ed,

Head over to Louisville for the second annual baseball memorabilia auction. You'd be lucky to get a baseball for $200.

Richard

Dear Ed,

at first I have to thank for your "photo link list" every day, I safe time
and find some photos I would never see without your work!

Now I want to write something which may be interesting for you.
The ebay member **156****** is buying for another collector as I know.
I think he has the order to buy everything which looks like a Storch.
So he is buying everything also photos with black silhouettes.

Then we have *****13. He is a very rich man with some people who work
for him. It doesn't matter to spend 1 or 2 million of Eur or USD at ebay
for him every year. I'm still wondering why nobody knows who is *****13
really. Lots of people do business with him or sell their photos at ebay.
As I found out he is one or the "one and only" man behind the "Archive
of modern conflict" in London. And now you can see some of his photos
published in future, I'm really sure. The first example is "Jagdflieger-
verbände 9/I". You know that his first interests were photos of Bf 109...
But it's a fact that *****13 needs some experts who tell him what is
a "must have" so he place his great bids. That's it.
