The arrow on the picture I sent is perhaps red if I refer to the book excerpt with a white(?) edging. This arrow is the same (colour (...dark) and sizes) on the two pictures of German airfields in France I have .

You may very well be right in the description you posted, considering the size and placement of the arrow.

I received also this explanation from a friend: “The arrow indicates the parking area for foreign airplanes to the airfield, arrow which is, if possible, near the air traffic control building.”

I find this explanation totally implausable. There must be some other explanation. You have to ask: "What foreign aircraft?" Foreign aircraft were not buzzing around landing on wartime Luftwaffe airfields in the Reich, except in rare instances. In Russia, Romania, Hungary, Italy and North Africa it was more common to have the Luftwaffe sharing airfields with air units from other Axis nations.

We are talking about two different things. The red arrows painted on walls in hangars and barracks did indeed point to firefighting equipment.
The large/huge red arrow, sometimes with a white rim, on the field did point in the direction of the Flugleitung. It was the first place you had to report on landing, if you were not stationed there.

You are right Larry but about the answer from my friend I understand “airplanes of units not assigned to the airfield.” It is the answer of Junker I see….
