Re: Proper Orientation of the JG 3 "Udet" Insignia?
Hi Paul,
As you said, the "U" was usually painted to the fore. The exception is II/JG3, that painted the emblem as in your attached image in both sides, so in the left side the "U" pointed to the rear. However this is not a rule. You can find II/JG3 planes with the emblem painted as in the other three Gruppen. What you see almost always in II/JG3 is the red dot painted below the emblem.
