One 8./JG 1 picture. Emblem help required.

Hi all,

The following picture is extracted from Der Adler.
What is the emblem beneath the cockpit?
I suppose taken in summer 1943 at Leeuwarden.

Thank you, Franck.

PS: Note the morane aerial under fuselage.

May be Josef Kehrle's personal emblem_8/JG1 (source "Defending The Reich" from Eric Mombeek_JAC Publications 1992_page 150 bottom).

Hi Franck,

some good eyes, a magnification of your image....
No, I remembered this emblem - have seen it before somewhere else in connection with the JG 1.

Therefore :

Re: One 8./JG 1 picture. Emblem help required.

Franck,

Moreover in the book "Defending the Reich" we can see (page 141) the same photo of Kehrle's aircraft (black 7) as the one joined to your post, but more "widely" printed.
Have you cropped the photo before posting?
Apparently Kehrle was leading a "Rotte" (two aircraft formation) with Rudolf Einberger as wingman, during the summer-autumn 1943 period in Leeuwarden. In an amusing manner, both aircraft were adorned with personal emblems showing a hunter. Kehrle's hunter was slim... Einberger's one (on black 8) was portly!

Re: One 8./JG 1 picture. Emblem help required.

Exactly, Kehrle flew black 7 and Einberger flew black 8.
'Benjamin' was written on top of Einberger's emblem and underneath Kehrle's emblem.

Does anyone know the Werknummer of the Bf-109 G-6/R-6 of Josef Kehrle? Was it Erla made (based on the camo)?

Thanks all,

Ah!! Effectively.
No I didn't crop the Adler's image, but the page yes. So, it's "original" size!

Franck.

The Staffel emblem is seldom depicted correctly. Here (and elsewhere):
http://www.asisbiz.com/images/0-embl...il-1943-0A.jpg
it lacks the yellow (sic!) American stars beside the red/white/red flag.

BTW, the spinner spiral was red/yellow. Several years ago, AeroMaster offered decals for this plane - but I guess they're out of print.

Do you know if the lower cowling was yellow? And could the spinner spiral pattern also be red/white?

Here is a clear picture from black 10 of 8./JG 1 (image from messerschmitt-bf109.de):
