Do.217 24 Sept. 1942

25 Sqdn (Church Fenton) claimed a Do217 in grid area A.9599 (off Flamborough?) on 24 September 1942. Can anyone confirm the location, please? Where can I obtain a copy of this RAF grid, together with an explanation of the numbering system used in the grid?

Re: Do.217 24 Sept. 1942

As a guide Mason page 617 has a small scale grid for this and using ''along the corridor an up the stairs' A.9599 appears off Flamborough Head. I had P/O Peake and Sgt. Parry as the Beau. crew with them being subject to return fire,

Brian, have now found an example in my old (1990) copy of Mason - so thanks for the reference. Peake died on 30 November 1942, while still with 25 Sqdn. Do you know the circumstances of his death?

Brian, thanks for the reply. Have since discovered that the Peake and Parry died as a result of the crash -Peake instantly; Parry hours later.

Jaap,
Excellent! Your link provides the missing(for me) prefix - and the "co-ordinates translator" is a very useful tool which confirms where I expected the location to be.
Brian, Jaap's link is worth a look. Bill Norman (website: www.billnorman.co.uk)
