Re: Why were Me-262s used againsg B-26s?
O.K., Stein M., if that's the case then he needs to cease and desist from using Miami/Florida as his return address. That's MY country and MY state and he is making both of them look bad. The whole idea behind identifying one's country in that block is so others can match the individual to his or her native language. How would you like it if I used "Bjørn, Trondheim" on a Norwegian web site and then proceeded to butcher the Norwegian language and make nasty retorts to some decent long-time member like Graham B. who tried in good faith to answer a question I asked? You wouldn't like it and you or another member would most likely have something to say about it.
P.S. Do a forensic on his prior posts on other threads and you will find example after example of perfect English, Stein M. So the evidence strongly supports my original contention that he is a native English speaker. |

Re: Why were Me-262s used againsg B-26s?
The answer to the original question, why were Me 262s used against B-26s?, is simple. The Me 262s of JV 44 were fighters. Flown by fighter pilots. Why do some people climb mountains? Because they are there. Why do fighters attack B-26s? Because they are there. A kill is a kill.
Enjoy! Frank.

Re: Why were Me-262s used againsg B-26s?
The Luftwaffe Air Defence Command system had a very stringent way of prioritizing. If there were a penetration of heavy bombers everything else seemed to be ignored e.g mine layers and supply drops. But next on the list would no doubt be light/medium bombers and fighter bombers. So if the airspace of a JD was penetrated and there were no raid by heavies, fighters would be committed against that raid. One consideration against employing Me262 against lower priority targets could have been the fuel situation.

Re: Why were Me-262s used againsg B-26s?
Those B-26 were bombing mainly airfields in Southern Germany, the very bases the 262 were using. There is a superb book explaining those days in detail, Battle over Bavaria by Forsyth and Scutts.
