Re: P-47D in the 258 Squadron RAF questions.

F/L Harry Francis Whidborne, 30 Sqn, is credited with a Tojo on Nov 4, 1944, in Thunderbolt II HD289. This is credited in the Enemy Aircraft Game Bag for 1944, and in the Squadron ORB.

S/L Neil Cameron, of 258 Sqn, is credited with a half share of a Tony, on Feb 11, 1945, in Thunderbolt II HD292/L. It was shared with W/O J McCredie, a gunner on a Liberator VI of 99 Sqn. I could not find a reference to the combat in the 99 Sqn ORB. Cameron's combat report is in the Squadron ORB; also credited in the EAC Adjudigated Claims Against EA/C, Feb 45.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Frank,

Does the EAC Adjudigated Claims Against EA/C, Feb 45 include claims by other units than fighter units?

Regards,
Peter

Re: P-47D in the 258 Squadron RAF questions.

Peter,

I can't lay my hands on my copies of the reports. But as I remember they do not. I think these reports were prepared (in 1944-45) by 3rd TAF, and as such would not cover the heavy bombers.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: P-47D in the 258 Squadron RAF questions.

Frank,

Thanks for the reply. I was not very hopeful about claims by air gunners but it was worth a try. Sofar I have only found reports with summaries of claims by air gunners from Bomber Command.

Re: P-47D in the 258 Squadron RAF questions.

I suggest you ask on this message board. It focuses on the Japanese side but there are knowledgeable researchers there.
