Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
At Koblenz-Niederberg was an Flak-Kaserne and they trained the Ersatz.
Tomorrow I hope I get more infos from my veteran. There is an funny story with him: His neighbore is an local historian and he always sayed there was no 4 cm Flak for the protection at the Südbrücke!!!!!! Both don't talk no longer with eachother!!! Very strange. h. |

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Flak-Ers.Abt. 39 (Koblenz-Niederberg) (Dec 40 – 1945).
This was supposedly for schwere Flak replacements, but anything is possible. A 4.0-cm Batterie would be mittlerer Flak, I think. L. |

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
I sent a request to WASt last night (Australian time), hopefully they have some information. Like you said Larry, anything's possible!

I hope so, too, Shane! I'd love to know the results when you hear back from them.

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Hi Shane - evidently WASt was not able to help, so your next step might be to contact the Stadtsarchiv in Koblenz. These city archives often have information from the World War II period that is not to be found elsewhere, especially details concerning bombings and air defense measures.

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
What is a Stadtsarchiv?
As a German it is always amusing to read this board. (OK, sometimes it hurts.)Regards Peter |

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Okay, okay, okay. Let's not make a federal case out of one wrong letter. Staatsarchiv vice Stadtsarchiv. However, I have seen Stadtsarchiv used frequently over on Axis History Forum, including by members displaying the German flag above their name.
For those here who know zero German, Staat and Stadt are both used for "city" and many other entities too, usually as a compound noun. L. |

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Another feasible possibility is that he (my Great Uncle) was in the Flakscheinwerfer regiment 70 in Koblenz. The Flakscheinwerfer batteries in Koblenz were formed in July 1943 and were sent to a Darmstadt Flakscheinwerfer Regiment after May 1944 when the Koblenz Regiment disbanded. The dates and time length seem to match what my Dad has said.
