An update for those who are interested:
24 Aug 42: 2 of the Spitfres were probably Hibbert & Phelps of 124 Sqn who reported nothing. Their scramble is noted in the F540 but not in the narrative. 308 Sqn also scrambled two Spitfires at 1505 hrs-no names yet 27 Aug 42: Hibbert, Gregson and Murphy of 124 Sqn had an uneventful scramble which again is not in the narrative. 4 Sep 42: A Section of 124 Sqn scrambled at 1455 hrs, landing at 1610 hrs. This time it is mentioned in the narrative but not identifying pilots and aircraft. 5 Sep 42: Hibbert of 124 Sqn got within 500 yds of what he thought was a He 177. 302 Sqn scrambled 2 Spitfires at 1130 hrs. 609 Sqn scrambled two Spitfires at 1122 hrs. Of interest, the Special Spitfire Flt was formed at Northolt 5 Sep 42 but Spitfire IXs are mentioned 30 Aug 42 and 4 Sep 42
