![]() It was most probably one of I/ZG 76 thirty-four Me 110s fighters from Stavanger supporting the sixty five Heinkel 111s bombers of I and III/KG 26 .
Here is part of the North East Diary (1939-1945) of events of the 15th August 1940 by Brian Pears collated events, attacks, bombings and everyday life. http://www.ne-diary.bpears.org.uk/Inc/ISeq_06.html However there is several references (although a differing single engined aircraft described) to a 'lost' ME109 / FW190 randomly straffing Middlesbrough & Darlington during March 1945. This fighter even with a 'drop tank' ran out of fuel and crashed I believe near Newcastle. It was suspected at the time the pilot was desperate and 'fanatical' and was prepared to kill himself rather than give up and bail out. http://www.communigate.co.uk/ne/westbrook/page7.phtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/94/a3641294.shtml |

Re: ? me 109 -Teeside flown shot down.1940
Freddie,
Re. your first paragraph, you need to re-read my earlier posting. Re. your second paragraph, the folks who publicise that kind of nonsense seemiingly have not looked at the facts and clearly don't want the truth to get in the way - of what they perceive to be - a good tale. 15 Aug 40 is very much true. Rogue FW 190 very much isn't. Again, Bill stated this in his post
