Regarding your three letters, bmw, if they are indeed a Hersteller code and don’t refer to (BMW) Bayerische Motorenwwerk AG, then they represent: Aluminiumwerke Nürnberg GmbH/Ventikörper Gasmaske (1943), Nürnberg-S., Nopitschstr. 67 [Bay]. Steve Sheflin

I believe the book in question is: Deutsche Fertigungskennzeichen bis 1945 (German secret armament codes until 1945), by Michael Heidler, Visier-Edition, Das International Waffen-Magazin, Stand Feruar 2008.
